Jason and Sarah are 16 months apart. When most people hear this, they chuckle and say, "You must have your hands full."
Yes, we do!! But let me just say that Sarah and Jason do well together most of the time. As well as can be expected of two preschool siblings! And for us as parents, we actually think it's easier to have two "tail enders" rather than start all over again with toddler routines. :)
With that being said, there are some challenging moments, mostly dealing with property issues!
Case in point:
Sarah is not fond of high chairs. We think maybe she didn't have a high chair when she lived with her foster family. When we ate in restaurants in China, some had high chairs, and some did not. But I don't think any of the Chinese high chairs had seat belts, which made for some interesting dining experiences with Little Miss Climber!! It's no wonder some of the first words she learned were, "Sit down!" :)
So, since we've been home, we've tried out the trusty high chair. For the first couple of months she tolerated it, but lately she has been pitching fits about sitting in it at all. She prefers to sit at the table with the rest of the family, so I thought I'd get her a booster seat to make meal times more appetizing for all of us.
I did a little online research (I am big on reading reviews, finding out the details) and purchased this cute, soft booster that doesn't slip and scratch the chair and also gives Sarah enough room to get her legs under the table.
As soon as Jason saw it, he wanted it (of course)! What three year old boy wouldn't want a pink booster seat?? So the squealing and grabbing battles began over the coveted booster. In the back of my mind, I kept thinking, "I KNEW I should have bought the blue one, too!" But you know, I'm trying to save a buck or two... and Jason does not have a track record for wanting a booster seat. He actually refused to use one, until... well, you get the idea.
Jason's older brothers tried to convince him that he really didn't want a PINK booster, but to no avail. So after a week of the booster battles, I broke down and bought a booster seat for him, too (it's in the mail as I type). We'll see if he still insists on the pink one, or if the blue one strikes his fancy. Or perhaps, I fear, he may decide that he is too big for either of them! Aaaack!

Exhibit A: The "holy grail" of booster seats!
Another example of "No, that's MINE!" follows:
This is a "one of those" pictures to threaten to show to his friends when he's about fourteen!
Disclaimer: The scratch on Sarah's nose was self-inflicted. She has sharp little nails that grow really fast. I say this in case you think they really are fighting like cats and dogs! ;)
P.S. Sarah is using her pink booster at meal times, and is a much happier eater. I'll update you on Jason's reaction to the long awaited blue booster. Never a dull moment...
10 Kind Words:
totally get it! It's easier having 2 on our end also: they entertain each other. But they're two yrs apart and can't always be treated equally. We're working on that and I realize we can't avoid the inevitable upset as more and more, things change between them and their experiences.
All you need to worry about huh? Hey I am coming to Provo April 30th for BYU Womens conference with family. Can I stop by to visit for an hour or so?
trust me, had you bought it for him off the bat, he would have told you he was too big for that thing!
been there so many times, over so many things :)
That is so funny! I know the high chair issues. I like that booster, you will have to tell me where you got that. Love Jason in the hat!
I'm glad Sarah likes her new booster, even if Jason does too!! Presley has been out of her high chair for a few months and at the table. Boy, is it hard to fit all 6 of us around our small table!! But she does seem to love being with everyone else!! Good luck with the blue booster seat. I hope Jason likes it!!
Jadon and Lily are 6 months apart in age. We definitely had a few battles when we brought Jadon home! But they are great friends (most of the time!) now. I guess that pink booster chairs lose their appeal with age!
Blessings,
Sarah
I am laughing with you. Welcome to my world. Many days I feel like I have twins with the girls also being 16 months apart.
Does Even really just have a repaired cleft lip?
I don't think that I have your email address, so this question doesn't relate to your post!
Blessings,
Sarah
We too had a little of that when we first got home but the girls get along better and share now. Sofi and Lize are 12 months and 1 week apart. They keep each ohter very occupied and "work together" on what they can get into next.
The Newsome's
Oh no - that's hilarious. Good thing we don't have anything pink around here - I KNOW my boys would fight over it too.
