Happy Chinese New Year!

We attended a Chinese New Year party with other adoptive families in our area on Saturday. It was a lot of fun, and we met a lot of nice people.

Sarah wore her traditional Chinese dress for the occasion. One Chinese New Year tradition is for family members to get new clothes. We bought this little dress in Guangzhou, and I wish I had bought many more (larger sizes) while we were in China. I can still find these silk dresses locally, but will end up paying a lot more for them. :) Sarah wasn't real happy in this picture, but it's the best one we have of the whole outfit!

Justin and Evan made Chinese lanterns. Their favorite part of the party was eating the potluck dinner, especially the Panda Express take out that we brought!

After dinner, all the kids had a dragon parade. They shook noise makers (cups with beans) and had a great time as the adults took pictures! There were about 100 people at the party.

And to finish the evening, we had a fireworks show, cake, and the adults passed out red envelopes to all the kids!

Logan is showing off his plastic gold coins and red envelope. The envelopes also had Chinese candy in them, which garnered mixed reviews from the boys.

Sarah with her red envelope.

"What you talkin' about, Willis?" (Just had to include this shot-- not sure why she is glaring at the camera so intently. She's probably tired of the Mamarazzi taking so many pictures!)

"Mamarazzi" is the best term ever! I've never heard that before. :) Cute, cute pictures.

Looks like you had a great time!! We did NOTHING this year, but we really need to start some kind of tradition. I also need to look into groups in our area. Or we can just come to Utah and celebrate with you guys!!

Cute dress. For my brother's wedding I ordered dresses custom made straight from China and they weren't very expensive. I'm sure much more than if you bought them over there, but still it was very reasonable.
