4th of July Parade!
Every 4th of July we visit Grandma and Grandad in their small town in Wyoming. Grandad serves in the state legislature and this year we got to be in the parade as official campaign workers (read: official candy throwers)! ;)
The official campaign "float." Grandad loves antique tractors and restored this one. It is shiny, but not so reliable. It broke down right after the parade. Good thing it waited until after the parade to conk out.
Dave drove the tractor. The rest of us rode in the trailer-- smiling, waving, and throwing candy.
I haven't been to a big parade in awhile, but in small towns (at least around here), lots and lots of candy is thrown. We all had a great time throwing candy and eating it, too!

My younger brother and his wife were also visiting, and brought along their "baby", a St. Bernard named Columbo who is roughly the size of a horse. A furry, slobbery horse. Jason (aka the Dog Whisperer) loves Columbo. He grabs his harness and leads him around outside. Columbo is very mellow and is always happy to oblige.
Another picture of the littles and the big. Notice the copious amount of post-drink drool. Good thing Columbo's so loveable... and that Grandma likes him, too! :)

6 Kind Words:
That is so fun!
You just gotta love small town parades! Nowhere else can you get enough free candy thrown at you to last until Halloween!
Great pictures. What a fun day.
I love the 4th of July in small towns. They always do it up big!! Some how they do such a great job of celebrating the things that really matter. What a great day!
Came across your blog from another, the 4 boys and a girl caught my eye!!
We too have 4 sons and a now 3 year old daughter adopted July 2008. We will be traveling back to China for our 9 year old daughter this fall.
You have a beautiful family and I enjoyed reading your blog and watching your video of traveling to China!!
And hey - the candy was SALT WATER TAAFFY - my favorite!! It might just be my "island food" - hard to say ;)
I just love how small this world is - April (from Mei Meis and Mayhem) is friends in real life with Sarah, who is Ruby's Momma (Bess from New Day)....
We really should plan a New Day Reunion - maybe next summer..
