Home for (over) nine months!

Life has been pretty busy lately... back to school, soccer season, etc. etc. So I'm playing catch up (again)!

Sarah has been home for over nine months now... and here's the latest!

1. Sarah loves to dress up. Here she is sporting a pair of Daddy's socks.

2. She is a chatterbox! From the moment she wakes up, the conversation begins. "My cup?" "My bunny (stuffed animal)?" "I wake up!"

3. She has two speeds-- "ON" (as in full throttle) and "ASLEEP". She doesn't miss a thing, watches us very intently, and learns very quickly. This is a tad bit scary at times!

4. Two of her newest phrases are, "I so tired." (we've learned that this one really isn't true! haha) and "I can't." She uses "I can't" when mommy asks her to pick up toys or put her shoes on.

5. Sarah loves Legos and bristle blocks. At first this kind of surprised me. I don't remember any of the boys being interested in blocks before they were around three years old. But Sarah loves them, and they are by far her favorite toys.
Dolls? Not so much...at least not yet. (not for a lack of trying! :)

Sometimes, when I look back on our adoption journey and our time together since we've been home, I can hardly believe we actually DID it! I mean, it sometimes seems so surreal that we hopped on a plane, went to CHINA, and returned home with our daughter-- a sweet, precious child of God! It was such an amazing journey!

So grateful for the opportunity to be parents and to have Sarah be a part of our family!

Back to School!

We had a great summer, but I think we're all ready for school! Here is this year's line up... Logan is a second grader. He loves his teacher, and has been reading even more since school started. (He picked out this shirt for his first day because it's "cool and has a tiger and Chinese writing on it!")

Evan and Justin are both at the junior high. Yikes! Next year, we will have one kid at the high school, one at the junior high and one at the elementary!

Justin is pretty elusive these days when it comes to having his picture taken, so we take whatever expression we can get! :)

All three boys were up bright and early on the first day (6:30 am, to be exact), which is truly miraculous! We'll see how long these "early birds" last!

Ode to Summer (a poem in free verse!)

Baseball, baseball, baseball...

hot bleachers, cold snow cones

fireworks, Grandma's house

lazy afternoons, lego cities

building forts in the trees

swimming, slides, sprinklers

to the beach! to the beach!

sandy feet, sunglasses, surf

play dough, popsicles,

corn on the cob, watermelon

old friends come for a visit

last blast--a trip to the lake

Learning and relearning patience, kindness

school shopping, schedules, haircuts

Making memories...

Bad Hair Day

Dave insists he doesn't know how to "do little girl's hair."

I replied, "Neither did I, until about 8 months ago!"

...and then one morning he proved it to me! ;)
